BONBEACH DANCE EISTEDDFOD RULES

  1. NO smoking on school grounds, or food or drinks within the Auditorium.

    2. ALL Competitors dance entirely at their own risk and are responsible for their own personal duty of care.

    3. NO VIDEO CAMERAS, CAMERAS, TAPE RECORDERS OR MOBILE PHONE CAMERAS will be allowed in the performance venue. If any recording devices are found in the Venue, we reserve the right to temporarily confiscate the equipment being used. Teachers, please inform parents and students of this rule, as it may result in disqualification.

    4. Proof of Age is to be available if requested.

    5. NO late entries will be accepted after the closing date. NO EXCEPTIONS.


6. Time Limits are strictly enforced. Going over any time limit may result in disqualification.

7. Responsibility for correct entries rests entirely with the Competitor.

8. Troupe and Duo/Trio/Quartet entries MUST be accompanied with a list showing names and birthdates of ALL Competitors.

9. Please note that we no longer accept audio tapes from 2014. Music can be submitted either via CD or iPod. If it is on an iPod, please ensure the music is cued at the correct place. If it is on a CD, please ensure you have a backup, as often CDs can jump in different systems, particularly burnt CDs. It is not the responsibility of the music player if your CD or iPod does not work or is cued incorrectly. Please ensure there is only ONE track on each CD.
          PLEASE NOTE:

  • If iPod is not cued when competitor/s commences dance, the music will be stopped and returned to the teacher with the request they cue it. If competitor still wishes to compete, they will be moved to the end of the section and will dance for CRIT ONLY.
  • If CD/iPod is not booked in at least one section prior to the section entered, the competitor/s will not be allowed to compete for a placing. At the discretion of the committee, they may be allowed to dance at the end of the section for CRIT ONLY.

10. Competitors must be booked in backstage before their section commences. We do not have the time or resources to come and look for Competitors, so please ensure you are backstage by the section prior to the one you are competing in. If a competitor is not backstage and checked in at the start of their section, it is at the discretion of the Committee as to whether they will need to dance at the end of the section for CRIT ONLY.

11. Age is to be taken from 1st January, 2016 at closing date.

12. NO communication with Adjudicators during competition. This is not negotiable and cannot happen for any reason whatsoever. To do so runs the risk of your child/school being disqualified. Committee is excepted.

13. The Adjudicator’s decision will be final.

14. Teachers/Competitors passes will be available at the venue ticket desk to pick up unless a School has ordered a Pre-Paid Program, in which case they will be sent with the Program. For individual Competitors passes, these will either be sent with Pre-Paid Programs if ordered, otherwise they will be left at the ticket desk for collection upon arrival. Pre-Paid programs will have an added Express Post charge of $6.00 per program incorporated into the cost. This is to ensure that the Programs can be tracked to their destination. Unfortunately, we had many instances where people claimed not to have received their Program and therefore asked for a free one at the venue, only for us to discover that they did in fact receive the original. Unfortunately this means we will ONLY post via Trackable Express Post. No exceptions.

15. No teacher or student to be eligible for 2016 Competition unless full entry fees have been received within 72 hours of entries being submitted.

16. NO telephone entries will be accepted.

17. The Committee reserves the right to combine or cancel sections and age groups where insufficient entries are received. Teachers will be notified in this event. In the event of a section being cancelled, entry fee will be refunded.
18. Timing and Costume Rules for Championships and Own Choreography Sections are as follows:

TAP CHAMPIONSHIP (4 minute time limit)
- Must consist of one routine to include fast & slow tempo without leaving the stage.
To be eligible – Competitor must perform in the Open Tap Solo section in their Age Group, and must perform at least 1 other routine in any other Open Solo section in their Age Group. Competitors are not permitted to repeat a routine already performed at this Competition.

JAZZ CHAMPIONSHIP (3 minute time limit)

To be eligible - Competitor must perform in either the Open Jazz Solo, Open Musical Theatre or Open Acrobatic section for their Age Group, and must perform at least 1 other routine in any other Open Solo section in their Age Group. Competitors are not permitted to repeat a routine already performed at this Competition. Jazz Champ solo dances are not restricted in the amount of Acrobatic content they have.

SONG & DANCE/TAP CHAMPIONSHIP (4 minute time limit.)

To be eligible – Item performed may be either Song & Soft Shoe or Song & Tap. Competitor must perform in the Open Song & Dance/Tap Solo section for their Age Group, and must perform at least 1 other routine in any other  Open Solo section in their Age Group. Competitors are not permitted to repeat a routine already performed at this Competition.

CLASSICAL CHAMPIONSHIP
(3 minute time limit)
To be eligible - Competitor must perform in the Open Classical Solo section for their Age Group, and must perform at least 1 other routine in any other Open Solo section in their Age Group. Competitors perform ONE Classical Routine for this Championship that has not already been performed at this Eisteddfod.

Competitors must have competed in at least 2 solo sections, open or novice.
PLEASE NOTE: NO COSTUMES are allowed for Own Choreography Sections. All competitors MUST compete in plain one color leotard with appropriate tights and shoes.

19. Special sections will NOT count towards aggregate points.

20. Tap sounds will not be permitted on music in Tap categories. Singing or vocals will not be permitted on the backing track for Song & Dance/Tap categories, however, we do allow full vocals on the dance/tap section only.

21. A Novice competitor who has not received a First or Second prize in the section they wish to enter, at any recognized competition since 2013 prior to closing date for entries to this Competition, are eligible for the Novice Solo sections.

22. In the event of a Competitor leaving the stage, other than as a result of a technical fault, he/she may return at the end of the section and dance for a Crit Paper only.

23. No Competitor will be able to dance in any Novice section and then in the Open section of the same style during this Competition.

24. Protests must be lodged in writing and accompanied by a $20.00 fee within 15 minutes of Adjudicator’s decision to a Committee Member. The fee will be forfeited should the committee deem the protest to be frivolous. The decision of the Committee will be final.

25. NO student is to dance more than once in any section, including troupes.

26. Teachers, please check entries carefully, as NO changes will be made for “mistakes” or omissions.
27. No refund will be made for entry fees paid after entry has been accepted. The only exception will be made in the event of a section being cancelled.

28. The Committee of the Bonbeach Dance Eisteddfod is not and will not be held responsible for any copyright infringement, lost property or damage to personal items, including and not limited to: tapes, costumes, props, etc. This is the responsibility of all Competitors.

29. Stage Curtain is to be utilised for TROUPE SECTIONS ONLY.

30. As the side stage area of our Venue is restricted and can get cramped, only Teachers with Visible Teacher Passes are permitted to be backstage during any performance. The exception to this is that there is ONE parent allowed backstage to stand with their child during his/her item for both the 6 & Under and the 7 & Under 9 Age Groups Only. With regards to Troupe Sections, only the Teacher of the item that is currently performing is allowed backstage and must enter and exit with their troupe. No other family members, friends or relatives are permitted to be backstage at any time. This is what the Audience area is for!

31. The following Code of Conduct is provided to encompass all those associated with Bonbeach Dance Eisteddfod. Those associated include Competitors, Dance School Principals and Teachers, Committee Members and Volunteers, and Parents and Friends of Competitors.
There is the expectation that all associated with the Eisteddfod will represent themselves in a positive, dignified and respectful manner at all times. Unsportsmanlike behaviour will not be tolerated at any stage throughout the Eisteddfod. This includes, but is not limited to, foul, rude or abusive language in any context; threatening or intimidating conduct; discourteous gestures; excessive celebration of success or violent actions of any degree. Competitors and teachers are strongly encouraged to promote fairness by not allowing or encouraging family or friends to hinder the Eisteddfod’s ability to marshal competitors or manage the Competition. Any breach of our Code of Contact can and may result in immediate disqualification and/or removal of Competitors and/or Dance Schools involved.

32. All performers must be present at the Awards Presentation to receive their awards. No awards will be given at other times, this will be strictly enforced. We are no longer able to post out awards.

33. Bonbeach Dance Eisteddfod reserves the right to add or delete competition days, or move competition location, due to unforeseen circumstances and entries will not be refunded if dates need to be extended.

34. An advanced schedule will be emailed to everyone participating who has advised their correct email address approximately 14 days prior to our Eisteddfod, listing the sessions and dates for all dance sections.  It is your responsibility to ensure you are aware of your performance schedule and times. Programs will be available for purchase at the Event, and can also be ordered at the time of entry as a Pre-Paid Program, to be sent out via Express Post only.

35. Competitors’, Parents and Teachers participation and attendance at the Bonbeach Dance Eisteddfod 2016 implies acceptance of all Rules, Conditions and Code of Conduct.

 PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO alterations to the Programming or splitting of Sections under any circumstances. Please ensure you are entered in the right section/s. If you are unsure, please ask your Teacher as there will be no changes on the day.
CATEGORIES

Hip Hop: a routine that utilizes Hip Hop/ Breakdance or Rap movements. Can only contain a maximum of 2 acrobatic type movements to be included in this category.

Tap solo: Any style or tempo of tap permitted.

Jazz: A routine using jazz technique, with such moves as kicks, splits, isolations etc. Can only contain a maximum of 2 acrobatic type movements to be included in this category.

Musical Theatre: A jazz routine that must be performed to music from a Broadway musical, the music does not have to be the original sound track. Can only contain a maximum of 2 acrobatic type movements to be included in this category.

Classical Ballet: Routine that must include classical steps and Ballet technique. Ballet or Pointe shoes only to be worn.

Neo Classical: Slow controlled ballet movements, set to slow music or ballad. Routine must demonstrate balance, flexibility and control utilizing the mood of the music. Can only contain a maximum of 2 acrobatic type movements to be included in this category.


Lyrical: Lyrical is expressive through the song lyrics, focusing on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. It combines the many technical elements of classical ballet with the airier aspects of jazz and contemporary. Can only contain a maximum of 2 acrobatic type movements to be included in this category.

Contemporary: Interpretive Dance using balance and control. Must be of contemporary style. Can only contain a maximum of 2 acrobatic type movements to be included in this category.

Own Choreography: Must be 100% student produced, no teacher assistance.

Song & Dance: Routine that must contain both singing & either soft shoe dance or tap. No lead vocals or contestant’s voice is allowed on the tape in Song section of routine. Song & Dance time limit is 4 minutes.

Acrobatic: A routine which must contain acrobatic/gymnastic passes, walkovers, etc. Definite choreography should be used to blend Acro tricks into routine. A minimum of 3 acrobatic moves must be included for this dance to be entered into Acrobatic category. Examples of acrobatic tricks include; front and back walkovers, front and back handsprings, handstands and elbow stands, cartwheels, and aerials. An acrobatic pass will be considered ONE acrobatic element if it is joined, such as a round-off back-handspring sequence.
